Jaco fishing seasons at a glance
Fishing is available throughout the year, but species activity changes with currents, bait and weather. These periods are planning guidance—not a guarantee of a particular catch.
Peak sailfish season
Dry-season conditions and strong offshore sailfish opportunities make this a popular time to reserve early.
Mixed offshore action
Transition months can produce varied offshore action while inshore fishing remains available.
Marlin, tuna and dorado
Green-season fishing can be highly productive, with fewer visitors and excellent pelagic opportunities.
Inshore possibilities
Roosterfish, snapper and other coastal species provide options throughout the calendar.

Jaco fishing charter FAQ
Where do Jaco fishing charters depart?
Depending on the selected boat, boarding may be from Herradura Bay or Los Sueños Marina. Both are a short drive from Jacó. Your reservation details should identify the exact meeting point.
Should I choose an inshore or offshore trip?
Choose inshore fishing for coastal species, a shorter run and half-day flexibility. Choose a full-day offshore trip when sailfish, marlin, yellowfin tuna or dorado are your priority.
What is normally included?
Typical charters include a captain and mate, fishing equipment, tackle, bait, ice and beverages. Full-day trips may include snacks and lunch. Inclusions vary by boat, so confirm the exact list before reserving.
Do beginners and children need fishing experience?
No. The crew can assist first-time anglers and families. For younger children or guests concerned about a long ocean day, an inshore half-day trip may be the most comfortable starting point.
Can we keep the fish we catch?
Edible species may be kept when legal and appropriate. Sailfish and marlin are catch-and-release, and roosterfish should also be released. The captain will explain the applicable conservation practices.
How far in advance should we reserve?
Reserve as soon as your travel dates are firm, especially from December through April and during holiday weeks. Availability depends on the individual boat and captain.
