What offshore fishing from Jaco is really like
Offshore fishing—also called deep-sea or blue-water fishing—takes place beyond the coastal reefs in deep Pacific water. Captains search current lines, temperature breaks, birds, bait concentrations, floating debris and feeding dolphins for signs of pelagic fish.
Productive grounds are commonly 20–40 miles from shore and can be farther away. For that reason, a full-day charter is strongly recommended when billfish, tuna or dorado are the priority.

How far offshore do Jaco fishing charters travel?

Is a half-day offshore charter enough?
A full day is strongly recommended for sailfish, marlin, yellowfin tuna and dorado. Travel time can consume too much of a half-day trip.
Do I need offshore fishing experience?
No. The captain and mate prepare the tackle and guide beginners through each hookup. Experienced anglers can also discuss preferred techniques with the crew.
Can we keep the fish?
Sailfish and marlin are released. Legal edible species such as tuna, dorado or wahoo may be kept when appropriate, and the crew can usually clean the catch.
What happens if the weather is unsafe?
The captain makes the final safety decision. If conditions prevent departure, the applicable charter cancellation or rescheduling policy will be followed.
Where do offshore charters depart?
Depending on the selected boat, boarding may be from Herradura Bay or Los Sueños Marina, both a short drive from Jacó. The exact meeting point is provided after confirmation.
